History: First club meeting in the books!

A BAND OF FRIENDS;  FALCON AND COMET ENTHUSIASTS START NEW CLUB 1/10/08

This club was started January 10th with its first meeting of 8 members. Members consisted of prior local Falcon Club members and new enthusiasts. The purpose was aimed at forming a friendly club that values all members and that includes not only quality show Falcons,  Comets, and Fomoco products but also encourages professionalism and friendship between members.

John Saindon started the meeting off with mention of plans to set by-laws in the future. He recognized that many of us came to form this new club due to unpleasant experiences with other clubs in the past.  Some of these experiences included members utilizing the club to get at other members with unproffesional and hateful tactics, stagnant programs that never seemed to changed because no one would step up and be active participants in the club, and a lack of leadership that wouldn't deal with problems that would arise with the club and between members.  Chris spoke up and said that he had noticed from past mistakes that leadership was never changed and because of that fresh ideas never surfaced and when they did, they were never recognized, and were never acted upon.  He also mentioned that while there were a lot of good, hard working people in the clubs, there seemed to be a few that would drag the club down with severe lack of class and there was no leadership to correct the issues.  Never-the-less, it was all agreed upon that by-laws would eventually be accepted to correct these types of issues and that they would be enforced by a
to-be-determined board of directors and/or a rule enforcement committee. It was also noted that if the new club was ever chartered by a national club, that all memebers would be required to join said club. This seemed to be a major issue with previous clubs picking and choosing what by-laws to enforce with the National club and this caused some serious integrity issues with some members.  Some members were comfortable skirting National memberships to allow friends to join local chapters without supporting the National Chapters while others felt that encouraging and allowing members to not supporting the National chapter it was jeopardizing the future of the National clubs.

David spoke up and said that he knew of 2 possible future members and John thought he knew of several as well.  After discussing possible memebers it was decided that we would need to have a membership drive during the upcoming car show season to recruit new members. The goal is to have 40 plus new members by the end of the 2008 car show season. This would enable us to have a good club turn out for the 2009 Starbird Show!

There were several national clubs discussed in consideration for national affiliation. The Falcon Club of America, The Comet Club, The All Ford Club, and The Mercury Club were all discussed as possibilities.  Lareina agreed to check into these possibilities. She also agreed to create and maintain the club website.

Excitement filled the air as all new members discussed building a new club that focused on good people, good friendships, positive behaviors, quality cars - show and driver, and a committment to grow the Ford and Mercury legacy.
